Azbukum is a Serbian language school and a centre for Serbian culture. It is founded in 1995 as an independant and non-profit assotiation specialized in educational programs for foreigners willing to learn Serbian. More than five thousand people from all over the world have been participating in the Azbukum programs: learning Serbian and discovering cultural and historical heritage of the Serbs.

In Serbian, there are many foreign words and phrases borrowed from other languages: Slavic, Latin, Greek, Turkish, German, Hungarian, Italian and English. The Serbs proudly embraced these loanwords from those with whom they came in contact. In doing so, they have enriched the Serbian language greatly. (šorc, bitanga, komšija, pendžer, ćao, jeftin, šnicla)
